Geologically, labradorite is found in igneous rocks and is primarily mined in locations such as Canada, Finland, Madagascar, Russia, and Norway. It is named after the Labrador Peninsula in Canada, where it was first discovered in the late 18th century. It was once thought to be the frozen Aurora Borealis that had frozen and fallen to the earth.
