Arfvedsonite Mineral/Geological Information

Arfvedsonite is a rare mineral which crystallizes into a monoclinic prismatic structure. The formation of Arfvedsonite’s crystal structure can be described as fibrous, rectangular needle-like prisms with a parallelogram as a base.  Its color ranges from black to bluish black, and its chemical formula is; (Fe2+)4Fe3+][(OH)2|Si8O22.

Arfvedsonite Formation

Raw Arfvedsonite appears all black to blue-blackArfvedsonite is formed in plutonic rock which forms in large masses such as plutons, batholiths, dikes, sills, laccoliths, and volcanic necks. Plutonic rock is the name given to igneous rock which has slowly solidified and crystallized underground from liquid magma. This slow process can take millions of years which can allow for large crystal growth. Plutonic rock forms large intrusions which can commonly be seen in mountain ranges as large granite masses known as ‘batholiths’.

Sometimes, Arfvedsonite can form as crystal inclusions in igneous rock formations known as ‘pegmatite’. Pegmatite is a course igneous rock which consists of intertwining crystals greater than 2.5cm  including crystals such as quartz, feldspar, and mica. Many of the worlds largest crystals can be found in Pegmatite.

Arfvedsonite Origin

In 1823 Arfvedsonite was first discovered and named after the late Swedish chemist; Johan August Arfwedson (1792-1841).

A grade A tumbled arfvedsonite stone with blue flash. Stones with blue flash are considered ideal for third eye chakra work, however any specimen will do. Arfvedsonite is considered an essential and powerful crystal for psychics, healers and those wishing to enhance their connection to the spirit world. It is thought that Arfvedsonite aids with developing psychic abilities and seeing into the future

But you do not have to be a psychic to appreciate the benefits of Arfvedsonite; this crystal reminds us to look to the future with hope and excitement rather than fear of the unknown. We can restore our child-like optimism about tomorrow and relieve the adult pressures of worrying 10 years, 20 years down the line.

As we brighten our view of the future, a brighter future becomes possible. So, Arfvedsonite also is a stone of manifestation - it helps us to divine a self-fulfilling prophecy of the most positive nature.

Arfvedsonite Chakra Benefits

Arfvedsonite is primarily a stone for the Third Eye and Throat Chakras. While any Arfvedsonite will do, stones with Blue flash are considered particularly powerful for opening the throat chakra. More intense flash is associated with increased Third Eye chakra benefits and future sight.
